EV CHARGING

Charging Your Acura EV

There are three different levels of charging for Acura electrified vehicles. Level 1 charging plugs in to any standard wall outlet, but charges slower than other options. Charge more quickly with a Level 2 charging station at home or public locations like shopping malls, offices and restaurants. For the fastest charging, choose a high-powered DC Fast Charging (DCFC) station and easily pay through the Acura EV app in your ZDX.

Frequently Asked Questions

The amount of money that an EV owner can expect to save compared to a gas-powered vehicle depends on various factors, including the cost of electricity, fuel prices, vehicle efficiency, maintenance costs, and any available incentives. While exact savings will vary depending on individual circumstances, EV owners typically save money on fuel cost, maintenance cost, and savings from tax credits and other incentives. According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the cost per mile to drive an EV is about half the cost of driving a gas-powered vehicle, assuming national average electricity and gas prices. Similarly, the DOE indicates that EVs can be less costly to maintain, due to fewer moving parts, no oil changes, and reduced brake wear due to regenerative braking systems.

EVs offer an adrenaline-pumping drive by providing instant acceleration due to the electric motor. By placing the batteries in the floor, EVs also have a lower center of gravity, ensuring agile handling on the road while a single-speed transmission provides a seamless driving experience. EV performance also contributes to charging. When EVs slow down, the batteries can be recharged through energy recaptured by regenerative braking. The electric motors also produce less noise than internal combustion engines, resulting in a quieter drive.

While there will likely be some changes to your routine, like planning ahead for places to charge on longer road trips and no longer needing to stop at a gas station, the easiest way to keep the same routine is to charge at home. Simply plug in with a Level 2 charger overnight and wake up to a fully charged battery. When you do need to charge while on the road, some quick planning can help ensure that you can shop, eat or run errands while your Acura EV charges.

The maintenance on an EV is minimal. EVs do not require scheduled oil changes, for example, but will still need regular service on items like tire rotations, alignments and air filter changes. Acura electrified vehicles will also need to have their batteries, electric motors and cooling systems inspected, contributing to the electric vehicle battery lifespan.

To find electric vehicle charging stations along your route, utilize the Acura EV app or Google Maps* to ensure optimal charging stops and help keep you on schedule to reach your destination. Planning ahead and checking which charging options are available on your route to your destination can help ensure the best road trip experience possible. Many public charging stations are now located near restaurants and shopping so you can time your charging with meals or stretch your legs while you wait.
