2.4-liter In-line 4 Engine
Standard Feature

With its 201-hp, 2.4-liter DOHC i-VTEC® in-line 4 engine, the TSX triumphantly combines high performance, light weight and fuel efficiency.
- i-VTEC® increases both low rpm torque and high rpm horsepower.
- The all-aluminum engine improves front-to-rear weight distribution to improve handling and agility.
- The Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system enables a smooth, powerful response with just the right throttle sensitivity in every driving situation.
- A high-flow exhaust system and Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) ensure precise and efficient fuel use.
- The TSX with 6-speed manual transmission has EPA Estimated Fuel Economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city and 28 on the highway27
- With the automatic transmission it has EPA Estimated Fuel Economy of 21 in the city and 30 on the highway.27
3.5-liter V-6 Engine
V-6 Engine
The 3.5-liter VTEC® V-6 engine, available for the first time in the TSX, produces an impressive 280 horsepower and 254 lbs.-ft. of torque, while delivering an EPA Estimated Fuel Economy of 18 in the city and 27 on the highway.27
- Superior breathing from the VTEC variable valve timing and high-flow exhaust systems improves both power and efficiency.
- All-aluminum construction, a hollow camshaft, and other weight-saving measures keep the larger engine lighter for better handling.
- The Drive-by-Wire™ Throttle system provides a precise balance of smooth and responsive by adjusting throttle sensitivity to varying driving conditions.
VTEC and i-VTEC
Standard Feature
Both TSX engines use a version of Acura’s VTEC® system, which stands for Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control. VTEC is a little like having an on-demand racing camshaft to give you high-rpm power without compromising low-rpm torque.
- When engine speed reaches a designated rpm, the intake valves open deeper and longer to enhance airflow and allow the TSX to continue to build horsepower at levels where other engines may run out of steam.
- The 2.4-liter engine has i-VTEC, which adds VTC. VTC advances camshaft rotation relative to engine rpm. This allows the intake valves to open earlier as rpm increases, optimizing valve timing for greater power across the rev range.
Smooth Operation
Standard Feature
The TSX 2.4-liter engine provides smooth, vibration-free operation that contributes to its sport sedan agility. Engine items that reduce vibration include:
- Dual balance shafts that turn in opposite directions at twice the engine speed to offset vibration from piston motion
- A rigid aluminum block and head
- Lightweight pistons and valves
- A silent cam chain
Sequential SportShift Automatic
Standard Feature
Available on both engines, the 5-Speed Sequential SportShift Automatic gives you the best of both worlds by combining the convenience of precise and intuitive automatic shifting with shift-for-yourself enjoyment.
- The Grade Logic Control system monitors throttle position, vehicle speed, acceleration and deceleration in order to recognize steep inclines so it can avoid gear hunting.
- The steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters deliver quick precise shifts at your fingertips.
- A tap of the paddle shifter when “D,” is selected, brings a quick gear change before returning to automatic operation when the TSX has resumed a steady speed. This allows you to make manual gear changes when needed, such as for passing, without changing in and out of manual mode.
- For quicker acceleration, select “S,” and the transmission allows the engine to rev higher before shifting. Using a paddle shifter in “S” puts the transmission into full manual mode, where you have direct control of all shifting.
6-Speed Manual Transmission
No cost option
For those who enjoy getting the most out of a high-revving engine, the 2.4-liter engine can be combined with a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission. Six ratios make it easy to keep the TSX in your favorite part of the engine’s rev band.
- The shifter features short throws and precise linkage for quick, confident shifting.
- The clutch has low-effort movement to reduce leg fatigue and short pedal movement for faster operation.
- Gear changes are made smoother with multi-cone synchronizers for the first four gears.
Suspension Systems
Standard Feature
Like a stereo and its speakers, a drivetrain‘s capabilities go only as far as the suspension system with which it’s paired. The TSX is equipped with front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspensions. The double wishbone design provides superior wheel positioning and prevents damper friction during hard cornering that can result from strut designs commonly found among competitors.
- The front geometry has been optimized to keep the wheels precisely positioned while cornering.
- A steel subframe cradles the engine, transmission and lower suspension components, which mounts on rubber bushings tuned to reduce road and engine noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) without compromising handling agility or steering precision.
- The compact multi-link design’s anti-lift geometry improves stability and minimizes weight shift during braking.
- A Progressive dual-mode damper design enhances bump absorption for an improved highway ride without sacrificing handling.
Steering System
Standard Feature
Precision-crafted electric rack-and-pinion steering allows drivers to feel how the wheels are encountering the road through their fingertips.
- The TSX achieves a firm, on-center feel at highway speeds while delivering a precise tactile response during curves, minimizing the need for small corrections.
- Using computer algorithms, power assist is adjusted according to vehicle speed, enabling steering feel to match driving conditions from parking to high-speed driving.
- Unlike more commonplace hydraulic power steering systems, the TSX electric assist does not deplete engine power.
Braking System
Standard Feature
The TSX braking system features a firm pedal feel that enables the precise deceleration and modulation demanded of high-performance driving.
- 11.8-inch ventilated discs in the front comply readily upon demand.
- 11.1-inch solid discs in the rear are highly responsive.
- The system comes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist.
